Happy New Year everyone! Sorry I’ve been away for a while. January is my husband and I’s birthday month so I wanted to take a bit of time off. But I’m back and ready to hit the ground running. If you know me, I enjoy thrifting. I like a bargain and getting items that are unique. Finding clothes is my favorite. I usually go into the store with $20 to $30 and come out with several articles of clothing. If I were to go to the mall with $20, I would only be able to buy a shirt and probably an accessory. So thrifting allows me to gain more while spending less. If you are interested in thrifting or already an avid thrifter, allow me to share with you things I like to look for.
Shop for your favorite brands
If you like to shop at H&M, Target, Asos, or Zara, see if you can find those brands at the thrift store. I love the casual looks that Target has to offer. Even though I do buy full or sale price items at the actual store, it’s nice when I can get a slightly used piece for a fraction of the cost. When I saw this dress at my local thrift store, I knew it would be a great addition to my casual wear. This is something I can wear to go shopping, to the mall or park with the kids.
Look for high-end brands
I guess it depends on your definition of higher end brands. For me, it’s more of a step up from the Targets and H&Ms. I look for clothing from J Crew, Topshop, and Anthropologie. Yes, they may be affordable to others, but I’m on a budget, so I want to make sure I spend money wisely. I found this dress while thrifting and it was from White House and Black Market. This dress is great for a more formal wear or even date night.
Don’t be afraid to venture out of your norm
When it comes to clothing, I am really into buying solid colors. It’s my safety net. But it’s ok to go a bit bolder. Try different patterns, cuts, and bold colors. When thrifting, try that vintage piece, or that patterned skirt that can’t be found at the stores. The thing is, you may never find that piece again. These pants were a steal and a great addition to my work wear. It adds interest and can be worn with a pop of color.
Purchase clothing that fit your lifestyle
When thrifting, make sure to look for items that make sense for your lifestyle. I like fur-lined coats, but it doesn’t make sense for the Florida weather. If you are very outdoorsy, then perhaps check for clothing that can withstand heat and sweat. For me. I’m always looking for a good church dress or outfit. Sometimes I’m there 2 or 3 times a week. So it’s important for me to have outfits for different events. I’m not familiar with the brand of this dress (Whowhatwear) but the cut and length was exactly what I’ve been looking for.
So, can you look stylish on a budget? Absolutely. If you have not already, try a thrift or consignment shop. You may be pleased at what you find.
